Arlington Heights native Jennifer Mitchell is a successful freelance copywriter, writing everything from business-to-business content to comedy. But finding herself a new mother, coming out of the COVID pandemic, she suddenly found herself, well, at a loss for words.

“It was wonderful being a mom, and I had plenty of support from my family,” Mitchell said. “But there was still a transition in the social life, level of fitness and intellectual stimulation that all moms go through. Like many of my peers, I felt a little lost.”
Now the mother of two toddlers, Mitchell launched a new concept for young moms last month, which she calls, The Happy Mama Sweat + Social Club.
This new community combines workout classes, social activities, resource meetings and a welcoming support system for new moms or those who are expecting. Many of the classes are designed for moms to bring their kids along in strollers while others will be for moms only.
Mitchell launched the new community Sept. 1 and its classes and gatherings have taken place at a variety of Northwest suburban locations.

“The goal is to let moms work on feeling better physically, in a safe, low-key environment,” Mitchell says.
So far, workout classes have taken place at locations including Wheeling Park District locations, First Ascent Climbing and Fitness, and the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre.
Most classes take place during daytime hours but some are in the evening, particularly the moms-only sessions. Evenings will include some social outings, both for moms and families, and some resource sessions on personal topics ranging from mental wellness to financial planning and more.

“We are partnering with locations that share our vision and want to create a safe space for women,” Mitchell says. “We want to work with locations that can benefit by getting acquainted with our members. We believe in mutually beneficial relationships and helping these locations grow and succeed as well.”
The Happy Mama Sweat + Social Club will offer monthly memberships, mini-packs, and individual class offerings. Information can be found on the community’s Instagram page @happymamassc and class registration is at https://happymamassc.as.me/
